| Bushey Hall Mens Section |
Qualification Requirements
You must be either
- A full 7-day member of Bushey Hall Golf Club prior to the closing date of the competition, unless otherwise stated on the entry competition entry sheet.
- A junior member with a handicap of 12 or below, who works an average of not less then 60 hours per month in a calendar year at Bushey Hall Golf Club
- A junior member who has an exact handicap of 5 or less (i.e. they are a category 1 player) will be entitled to play in all men’s boarded competition provided.
- They demonstrate commitment to Bushey Hall by maintaining it as their home club (i.e. we manage their handicap via the Hertfordshire Golf Union and they represent Bushey Hall in any external competitions).
- They commit to playing for Bushey Hall Junior and Scratch teams exclusively, subject to their availability (i.e. they may not play for any other club in the same leagues.)
- Or they are a member of another club but have previously been a member of Bushey Hall juniors for at least 3 years (not necessarily the last 3 years.)
- 7 Day members & juniors must also be a full paid up member of Bushey Hall Golf Club Men’s Section prior to the closing date of the competition, unless otherwise stated on the entry competition entry sheet.
- To qualify for entry into any ‘Board Competition’ members must have an up to date handicap. This handicap must be kept up to date with the submission of at least 3 medal cards over the previous season. Members not meeting this criterion will not be eligible for any competitions, and may have their handicap reviewed under rule 19. New members to the club who did not play during the previous season will be exempt form this rule for their first year only. But they must have either an up to date handicap certificate from their previous club or submit 3 medal cards signed by a member to obtain a current playing handicap.
Completion of Entry Form
- You must always print your name and membership number clearly on the entry sheet. Illegible or incomplete entries may not be entered into the competition draw.
- Do not try to fill in your name where another member has removed his from, or you will find your name has been placed at the end of the reserve list.
- Any player whose name appears on the entry sheet more then once will be drawn in the later time slot, which he has elected to play in.
- Please ensure that all names that are entered on the draw sheet are available to play on the day of the competition. This could lead to a member who has put his friends name into the competition receiving a ban if the friend then does not turn up for his tee time, because he did not know he was entered into the competition.
- No player may enter a competition once the closing date of that competition has passed. Unless he had entered his name on the reserve list for that competition prior to the closing date.
- If your handicap is adjusted, after a competition you have entered has been drawn which then makes you ineligible for that categorised competition. You will be entitled to switch to a competition with in your new handicap band on application to the Men’s section committee, provided your handicap adjustment did not come from a previous handicap category competition. This application must be made at latest 7 days prior to the competition you wish to enter.
Competition and Medal Days
- After the starting times have been published on the notice board, no player may have his start time changed, unless by the starter on the day of the competition.
- No player may play in a competition tee time if not drawn to play in that competition.
- All players must sign in for the competition/medal/stableford on to the Club 2000 Computer. Failure to do so could mean disqualification.
- Members are responsible for ensuring that the correct competition details are entered on their scorecard. Failure to do so will mean disqualification.
- All scores marked on the card must be clear and legible. If they are not this could result in disqualification.
- Members who return a completed competition/medal/stableford card, without signing out of the Club 2000 Computer system will have their card classed as a Nil Return and the member disqualified.
- Members who have entered a competition/medal/stableford and fail to submit a completed scorecard will be classed as a Nil Return and the member disqualified.
- Members who enter a competition/medal/stableford, and file or have classified more then three Nil Returns, may, under rule 19 have their handicap reduced by 1 – 4 strokes.
- Members must report to the starter prior to their tee off time, otherwise they will be subjected to either disqualification or incur a penalty (rules of golf 6 – 3 applies).
- Members who arrive on the tee after their designated tee time, but no later than 5 minutes after their allotted time will incur a penalty of (loss of first hole in match play or two stokes at the first hole in medal/stableford). Arriving on the first tee more then 5 minutes after their allotted tee time will mean disqualification.
- In the event of any match play game ending all square after 18 holes, the first extra hole will be the 1st, followed by the 2nd, 3rd and onwards until a result has been reached.
- No buggies should be used in a board competition/medal /stableford, unless agreed by the Men’s Section Committee prior to the competition/medal/stableford being played. Breach of rule disqualification.
- It is mandatory to complete all competition rounds. Failure to do this could result in a penalty for breach of etiquette to your playing partners.
- All match play competitions rounds must be played on or before the date stated on the draw sheet (weather permitted). If a name has not been put through by the closing date of a round it could result in both players being eliminated from the competition. However the date for the final of the competition, may be changed with the agreement of all parties, but must be played within 14 days of the original date. Or in the case of the Winter Singles & Doubles by the 1st April (weather permitted).
Withdrawing from a competition
- After the competition closing date a member withdrawing from that competition will be subject to breach of etiquette penalty points (see below)
- The only acceptable method of withdrawing from the competition is to contact the competition secretary between the hours of 9am to 9pm (the answer phone is always on). The only exception is on the day of the competition, when you should contact the pro shop (01923 225802) prior to your start time. If you contact the pro shop after your start time, it will be classed as a no-show.
- Do not tell reception or people behind the bar, that you cannot play and expect them to pass the message on, the responsibility is yours. If the message is not passed on it could result in you receiving a ban from several competitions, or ineligible for further competitions that year.
Breach of etiquette penalties
- Members who are in breach of the competition rules and accrue penalty points will be ineligible to play in the next board competition to be drawn on reaching a total of points (see table below for penalties)

- Any appeal against the awarding of penalty points should be put in writing to the Men’s Section Committee via reception, and will be discussed at their next monthly meeting. (Meetings held first Tuesday of each month).
- Any player reported to the Men’s Section Committee for any breach of etiquette on or off the course will be reported to the General committee for sanction/disciplinary action.
