Welcome to Bushey Hall Golf Club. I hope the information you are about to read gives you not only an idea of how the section runs but interests you enough to come along and join in.
The section is made up of both 5 and 7 day members of varying golfing abilities from beginners to a very low 5 handicapper.
The ladies who play at the weekend usually play together with pre-booked tee times on both days. There are also tee times booked on a Tuesday for those that wish to play.
The ladies section, along with the management has developed a mentoring scheme for new members. This means when you join, a member of the committee will contact you and introduce themselves. They will arrange to meet you at the club and show you where things are and introduce you to other members. They will also for those without a handicap either play with you and mark your card or arrange for someone else to do it with you. They will also make you aware of any change in tee times etc.
The section committee
The ladies committee is made up of:
The Lady Captain and Vice Captain
The Treasurer, the Handicap Secretary, the Competition Secretary and the Secretary.
This committee is elected yearly at the section AGM.
The committee meet on a monthly basis. If any member of the section has an idea or a complaint they wish to bring up they can either speak to a member of the committee or write to them. This will then be taken up with the relevant committee member and an answer given to that member.
The Lady Captain or section representative also sits on the main club committee.
Competitions
Every month a medal and stableford competition is held. The main day for these is Saturday with the alternative day being a Tuesday. The score cards from these competitions are kept and entered into the computer for adjustment of handicap under Congu Rules.
The main playing season runs from April to October. During this time we hold boarded competitions. These take on the following formats:
- 4 Individual medal competitions
- 2 Individual stableford competitions
- 2 Match play knockouts
- 1 Doubles competitions
- 3 Mixed competitions
All the boarded competition apart from one are held at the weekend.
Other competitions that are not boarded are:
- Lady Captains Day
- Captains Day
- Ladies v the Juniors
- The summer and winter texas scrambles
These are fun events the captains days are followed by a meal and entertainment in the evening.
We also participate in 4 friendly external club matches, 3 are held at the week end and 1 on a week day.
Lastly, being the oldest club in Hertfordshire we also take part in the Herts Challenge Bowl. This is restricted to players of a lower handicap.
As a section we also enjoy days out playing at other clubs during the summer months and usually have a weekend away once a year at a golf course.
Bushey Hall as a golf club is known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere to new members and the ladies section I’m glad to say is very much a part of this. I hope you enjoy not only playing golf but also being a member of Bushey hall for many years to come.
